Why do people hunt chachalaca?

Because it is a game bird

hunters can tell people they have actually seen one

and because they are in thickets so thick, that should they see one, unlike a snipe that lives in pretty open areas, they appreciate the challenge of actually getting their weapon into shooting position while they have branches poking them from every direction.
