Well, the dark side of the Moon is where it is nighttime, not the "far" side. Like on Earth, nighttime on the Moon is always moving round and around the globe.

  • When it is night time on the moon and we can see it, it's called a New Moon.
  • When it is daytime on the moon and we can see it, it's called a Full Moon.

So, the part of the Moon that is dark or nighttime is very cold . . . say about -238 degrees, F. The part of the Moon that is in daytime is hot. There is no atmosphere on the Moon to hold in heat at night, or filter the Sun's heat during the day.
