It really depends on the individual scientist. Some scientist are extremely atheist or agnostic. Others are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or a number of other religions.

An example of this:

  • Stephen Hawking (physicist) - Atheist
  • Bill Nye (mechanical engineer) - Agnostic
  • Lawrence Krauss (physicist) - Atheist
  • Albert Einstein (physicist) - Jewish
  • Henry F. (Fritz) Schaefer (theoretical chemist) - Christian
  • Ahmed Zewail (chemistry/physics) - Muslim
  • William D. Phillips (Nobel Prize in physics) - Methodist
  • Arno Penzias (Novel Prize in physics) - Jewish
  • Guglielmo Marconi (Nobel Prize in physics) - Catholic
  • Farouk El-Baz (NASA Apollo Program) - Muslim
  • Francis Collins (director of the human genome project) - Christian
  • Phillip W. Anderson (Nobel Prize in physics) - Atheist
  • Norman Tolk (physicist) - Mormon

Albert Einstein was quoted as saying, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

Bill Nye was quoted as saying, "You can believe what you want religiously. Religion is one thing, but science, provable science, is something else."

Beliefs on God differ greatly throughout the modern scientific community, even among those in the same areas of study.
