What is atrophic gastritis?

Atrophic gastritis is a medical condition characterized by the thinning and inflammation of the stomach lining, often leading to a reduction in gastric acid and digestive enzymes production. This condition can result from chronic infection with Helicobacter pylori, autoimmune disorders, or prolonged use of certain medications. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and nutritional deficiencies due to impaired absorption. If left untreated, atrophic gastritis can increase the risk of gastric cancer.
