Black Power emerged as a response to systemic racism, police brutality, economic inequality, and the limitations of the Civil Rights Movement's nonviolent approach. However, it did not emerge as a response to the support for integration, as many Black Power advocates believed in self-determination and racial pride rather than solely seeking integration into white society. Their focus was on empowerment and developing a strong Black identity rather than pursuing integration as a primary goal.
