What are the merits of the hounsfield tensometer?

The hounsfield can often produce results which are largely different from what may have been expected from published data. this is for a number of reasons, ranging from the age of the machine, the measuring equipment used, to the gear ratio of the machine. However they are highly repeatable and will allow results of different materials to be easily compared.
