What would happen if there was no leap year?

Slowly, slowly, the calendar would begin to drift out of synch with the seasons. If you were a farmer, and used to do your planting in April, eventually it would no longer work. Either the plants wouldn't have time enough to ripen befor autumn, or frost would damage them as they grew.
