Children should be limited as much as possible on their sugar intake. Children need more sugar than adults due to their energy level, but the sugar should come from nutritious sources. It is recommended that children in the preschool years should have the equivalent of 3-4 teaspoons per day. From the early teens trough the teens, this can be increased to 5-8 teaspoons.
