Why does Shoeless Joe Jackson's tombstone say Joseph W Jackson?

Because Shoeless Joe Jackson was a nickname and Joseph W Jackson was his full name.

I am new to this site- trying to figure out how it works, but I am the question poster. His full name is Joseph Jefferson Jackson, so where does the W come from?
