What is denominational pluralism?

Religious pluralism can be used in several ways. In one instance it is when different denominations or branches of a religion exist collectively under one larger classification. The most common example of this is the many denominations of Protestantism. Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, etc. are all part of Protestantism but differ from each other in cultus (specific beliefs and practices). It can also be used as a general term for diversity in religions and religious acceptance. Especially in the U.S., there are many many religions together in one country and perhaps one overall civil religion.
