Why do pills come in a bottle?

Blister packs are more effective to monitor who is using a medication and how much they are using. I work in a group home for adults with disabilities and we use blister packs to prove that a pill was given by signing and dating by the pill we give. They can also prevent contamination and the risk of re-exposing yourself or someone else to a previous ailment.
