First, and formost, if the addict wants to die, I would contact the local suicide helpline. That number is 1-800-273-TALK (8255) Second, I would tell this loved one that it is possible to stop using drugs, no matter what or how much they are using, and find a new way to live. Treatment is certainly an option and they might want to consider that option. I would also strongly suggest that the addict, if they want to stop using, call their local Narcotics Anonymous helpline. In many larger areas it is possible to speak with or have another addict (who has stopped using drugs) call them back. You can find the closest NA fellowship by going to www.na.org, then click on helplines on the top of the page, then "to phonelines table of contents" You can then scroll down and find the particular state where the addict is located. The phoneline numbers will be listed by city.
