Why did doukhobors leave their homeland?

Doukhobors, a spiritual and pacifist group originating in Russia, left their homeland primarily due to religious persecution and oppressive government policies. They sought freedom to practice their beliefs, which emphasized communal living and non-violence, and opposed military service. In the late 19th century, many migrated to Canada, attracted by the promise of land and the opportunity to live according to their values without fear of repression.
