1997 Monte Carlo quit won't start. Ran for about 50 miles then died. Engine will turn over and even backfire but will not start. New battery was insatlled 2 weeks ago. There is fuel at the fuel rail.?

You should check the camshaft positioning sensor or sensors, and the crankshaft position sensor it will likely be one of these or the timing belt could have become loose from a bad tentioner and jumped time, i would check the sensors first... should get a code with a scan tool
