Are opiates fabricated

Opiates are naturally occurring compounds derived from the opium poppy plant (Papaver somniferum). While some opiates, like morphine and codeine, are extracted directly from the plant, others, such as synthetic opioids like fentanyl, are chemically manufactured in laboratories. Therefore, while natural opiates are not fabricated, many opioids available today are synthesized.
