Who invented tractors and when?

'Tractor', is derived from the Latin Word 'trahere' which means, 'to pull'. 'Traction' which implies having a greater torque. The 1st tractors were steam powered plowing engines, used in pairs. In 1892 John Froelich invented the 1st tractor.

The oldest known self propelled vehicle is the 1769 Cugnot Steam Tractor built by Nicolas-Joesph Cugnot.
