A source is someone that provided knowledge and information to a reporter. It could be as simple as asking someone on the street their perspective on a current event to a professional expert, such as asking a doctor to explain recent advancements in cancer research.

A source can also be a published data. For example, this could include a statement issued by a government agency, or a data set such as population Demographics published by the US Census Bureau
