How much money does the massage therapist make per hour?

The hourly earnings of a massage therapist vary greatly - anywhere from $20 an hour to over $100 an hour. That is for the following reasons: 1) GEOGRAPHIC: It depends on the area of the country and the city in which you work. In most cases, you would earn more than if you live in a large city (New York City, Chicago, etc.) than if you live in a more rural area of the country. 2) WORK SETTING: If you work in an upscale spa or a medical clinic you will probably make more than in a general massage office. 3) LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE: If you are self-employed (have your own office or studio) you will probably earn more than if you are employed by someone. Example: if you are an independent therapist and charge $50 an hour, you will earn more than if you work in a spa where they charge $80 an hour for your services but you are paid by the owner of the spa only 50% of the cost of the session ($40). 4) EDUCATION: If you have a good education in massage, you will find you are able to gain a greater income than someone with less education. 5) TYPE OF MASSAGE: Certain massage styles and techniques (craniOSacral, myofascial release, strutural integration, etc.) will bring more income based upon the need by the clients. 6) EXPERIENCE: The therapist who have a lot of experience in their field of massage are those who can demand more money per session.
