Is the play soul gone home a comedy?

While it appears that Soul Gone Home is definitely not meant to be a comedy, as the short play consists mostly of a mother talking to her recently deceased son who frequently criticizes his mother for not taking proper care of him, leading to a death from TB and malnourishment. Langston Hughes said this about the play,

"[I]t is NOT a heavy tragic sentimental play. . . . There should be as many laughs as possible in the way the SON's part is written and played -- otherwise the tragicomedy will not come through, and it will be merely an over sentimental and unpleasantly grim piece."

So, take it as you will, but the play-write himself did not want the play to be depressing.
