Friends with benefits means that you are not in a relationship but just have the sex part. At the same time you have no obligations to each other and both can find a real boyfriend or girlfriend at any time and then the FWB relationship will be over.
Teens seem to have adopted this for a milder version where it's just kiss, hug, making out etc but the real form is basically just 2 friends having sex until they meet someone.
