First, you need four pieces of information:

  1. The international access prefix for outbound international calls from your current location.
  2. The telephone country code for the place you want to call. Country codes have 1, 2, or 3 digits, and never begin with zero.
  3. The telephone area code or city code (if any) for that place. Note that in many (but not all) cases, you drop the trunk prefix 0 from the domestic area code when dialing internationally.
  4. The subscriber number of the person you want to call.

If you are calling on a GSM mobile phone, just begin with the plus symbol (+), followed by the country code, city code, and number. The mobile network will automatically insert any needed prefix(es).

Otherwise, dial the international access prefix, country code, city code, and subscriber number, in that order.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)
