You should always call your doctor first. Chest pains can range from indegestion - where a coke may help to a valve problem. Your doctor can tell you whether or not you need to go to the emergency room. Hospital waiting rooms become overcrowded and the triage nurses cannot always take your case immediately. If the pain is severe, and you can't get through to your doctor or feel that it is an immediate emergency, call 911. An EMT (Emergecy Medical Technician) will be able to reach your house faster than you could get your child to the hospital. They carry most emergency cures in the ambulance, are trained how to use them and how to quickly diagnose, and they get immediate priority in the E.R.
