In the ancient MYTH Athena and Poseidon both wanted to become the patron of a wealthy city. They both asked the King of the city and he said "Whoever can give us the best gift shall be our patron."

So Poseidon stuck his trident in the ground and out popped a saltwater stream.

Athena waved her spear and grew an olive tree.

The king and his people chose Athena's gift because it gave them food, and they couldn't drink the saltwater stream either. So therefore the city was named Athens

after Athena.

But that was a MYTH so the real story was she did nothing because she didn't exist and the ancient greeks just named their city after her.
