What are the similes in the book Canyons by Gary Paulsen?

In Canyons, the foreshadowing happens when Brennan (towards the beginning of the book) tries going to sleep during his camping trip in the canyons. He thinks he hears a lion but its really a spirit. He has an uneasy feeling and that is foreshadowing an event that something will happen.
