When did determining a right hand or left hand doors swing change or reverse?

Left hand, its a left hand door. For exterior doors, you have to tell the door supplier if it is an open out door so they can get the threshold right and add hinges with non-removable pins. It gets a little tricky on commercial applications where you have to factor in whether the door opens into the room or out of it. "Left hand reverse" ect.
