What does 700C mean on a bicycle tire?

Wheel and tire sizes can be a bit - well, messy. To find out more about them than you'd ever wanted to know,

The short answer would be something along the lines of:

  • 700C is an old standard, same as a Bead Seat Diameter of 622 mm. Often referred to as an 28" tire
  • the 28 in this case is an approximate tire width in millimeters. Should be abt 1 1/8"
