Hominids, the family of primates that includes humans and their ancestors, have been around for approximately 6 to 7 million years. The earliest known hominid is Sahelanthropus tchadensis, which lived around 7 million years ago. Over this extensive period, various species evolved, leading to the emergence of anatomically modern humans (Homo sapiens) around 300,000 years ago.
