Why did Cleopatra end her life?

Cleopatra ended her life because she could not stand the possibility of total humiliation by walking in chains in Octavian's triumph in Rome. Remember, she was a very proud woman, who was given the royal treatment everywhere she went from childhood to adulthood. She simply could not tolerate being part of Victorian's celebrations.
