What is public fire protection?

Public fire protection includes municipal and other government fire departments. There are also "fire protection districts" in some jurisdictions, where they are funded by taxation, but may respond across political boundaries.

Private fire protection, on the other hand, is generally limited to large industrial facilities that provide their own equipment and personnel for use at their private facilities, although they may have arrangements with local officials for water supply or mutual aid.
