A 44-cent stamp allows you to send a letter by First Class from any state to any other state, even Alaska and Hawaii, as long as it weighs one ounce or less and is of the standard size and shape (which allows it to be machine read). One ounce is approximately equal to three sheets of paper and a standard envelope. Over an ounce and up to 2 ounces will cost 17 cents more.
