The Rapa Nui statues, known as moai, were sculpted by the indigenous people of Easter Island between 1400 and 1650 AD to honor their ancestors and chiefs. These monumental statues ranged in height from a few feet to over 30 feet and were carved from volcanic tuff using stone tools.
