A religious viewpoint: It is not bad to be gay. But some religions, such as many denominations of Christianity, believe it is bad and a sin to act upon being gay (such as having sexual relations with the same gender). So, according to some religions, it's okay to be gay as long as you remain celibate and lonely. There are however, many religions that fully accept gay people, and even permit them to marry.

A non-religious viewpoint: It is not bad to be gay any more than it is bad to be straight or tall or brown-haired. It is the sexual orientation you happen to have, no more and no less. Some particular GROUPS' STANCE may want to label it as "bad" but that doesn't mean it is, just that a certain number of people dislike it. They might also dislike left-handed people or green-eyed people and insist these things are bad too. That doesn't make it true.

Some groups may want to call it "a sin" but that doesn't apply to anyone who doesn't care to follow that particular view. And most certainly not all religious people think being gay is "a sin" - many are open minded and can think for themselves and see that being gay is not "bad".

Being gay is not inherently bad or good, it simply "is".
