No, you cannot be an animal in Animal Crossing. Animals are your neighbors, and you are meant to be a human, and will always be that way. You can dress into certain clothes that resemble animals, however. Some examples are:

• Rabbit:rabbit head piece, bunny shirt.
• Lion:Lions main, lion shirt.
• Chetah:chetah shirt
