Why do you think the shop assistants call customer love?

Many people use different terms of endearment when talking to people and the Word love is often used out of context like when you are being seved in a shop the assistant may say thankyou love rather than thankyou sir or thankyou dear or thankyou sweetie they are using the Word love as an informal expression and they are not in love with you.
