AnswerThe latch needs lubrication every once in a while. It is a simple fix. Squirt the cable with a good water based degreaser (like Simple Green) and then relubricate with a water deterrent silicone based lubricant (like WD-40 or CRC). The dirt and grime on the cable keep it from sliding easily. In the cold weather the problem is worse due to less magnetic pull from the solenoid and spring.
