A rectangle and a trapezoid are alike in that:
- both are polygons
- both have four sides (that is, both are quadrilaterals)
- both have four angles
- both have interior angles whose sum is 360°
- both have exterior angles whose sum is 360°
- both have at least one pair of parallel sides
- the area of each is (1/2 of the height) times (the sum of the bases)
- both can tesselate
By definition, a rectangle is NOT a trapezoid since a trapezoid can have ONLY one set of parallel sides and a rectangle always has two.
