Does India still have the caste system?

Officially the Caste System is illegal in India, proscribed by the Constitution of India in 1950.

However, the caste system is still adhered to by many people in India, especially in rural areas. It is falling out of favor in the cities, and as people become more educated, it will continue to lose popularity, but it is unlikely that the type of discrimination engendered by the caste system will disappear totally anytime soon.
