People's Trust Insurance Company is a Florida domiciled insurance company writing exclusively homeowners insurance in the state of Florida. As such, they have a fairly homogeneous mix of risk and are particularly susceptible to underwriting performance swings based on geographical area events that impact Florida or a subset of Florida disproportionately. There are several rating organizations which rate financial stability and claims paying ability for insurance companies. The rating agency most frequently cited is AM Best. AM Best does not currently rate People's Trust Insurance Company. This does not mean that People's Trust is not financially sound. Another, newer, rating agency, Demotech, also rates financial stability. People's Trust has an "A" (Exceptional) rating from Demotech, affirmed December 2, 2008. As of 9/30/08, they have $7 million in net written premium and $7.3 million in policy holders' surplus. This is an extremely strong ratio, as a ratio of $2 dollars of net written premium to $1 dollar of surplus is conservative, and any lower ratio is ideal. Their ratio is currently less than 1:1. Of all companies assigned an "A" rating by Demotech, over 99% survive 24 months and over 94% survive 10 years. An "A" rating by Demotech is the third highest rating the company assigns, and is in the middle third of all ratings assigned.
