Find other sources of energy and stop using fossil fuels. The only satisfactory way to prevent damage to the environment from acid rain is to reduce the amount of pollution from burning fossil fuels. Since most of the oxides of nitrogen are produced naturally, we should find a way to reduce their natural production. Since volcanoes produce far more oxides of nitrogen AND sulfur compounds than humans produce we should find a way to cap volcanoes before they erupt.
