What if you change your bank account before amscot cashes the check any legal issues or will it just be fowarded to a collection company?

It's not good to do that... if you write a check you are responsible to pay it and there could be potential legal issues including the fact that they can pursue you in court. Amscot is always very reasonable and easy to deal with, if you are having problems paying them just call and tell them up front. They will work out payment arrangements with you to help you get on track.
