What is self purification of water?

Self purification of water: Water contains lots of soluble minerals,bacterias&various metal ions. Bacteriophages(combination of bacterias&viruses) are responsible for self purification of water.They are also present in river GANGA.They attack harmful bacterias and kill them by making holes in their membranes(also called as lysis).
