How long can anyone stay buried in a cemetery?

In North America, a cemetery burial is forever, unless the cemetery is relocated. Then all the burials are moved to the new location, with their markers.

In much of Europe, a modern cemetery burial is for a period of 50 years; then the cemetery plot can be resold and used again. This does not apply to Jewish cemetery burials. For religious reasons, Jewish cemetery plots are used only once and the burial is forever.
