Why is blackie the antagonist in the destructors?

In Graham Greene's "The Destructors," Blackie is the former leader of the Wormsley Common gang. He's much more benign than T, and was satisfied just to break into old Misery's house and steal anything. Although he's hurt when the gang chooses to follow T, he commits to the new leader and is still willing to work as part of the gang
