Change in hand possistion for the pledge of aligence?

The traditional hand position for the Pledge of Allegiance involves placing the right hand over the heart. However, during the 1940s, some individuals began to raise their right hand, palm outward, in a gesture reminiscent of the salute. This practice was later discontinued due to its association with the salute used by fascist regimes. Today, the most accepted and common method is to place the hand over the heart.
