Mendel looked at seven different characteristics of the pea plants he experimented with.
These were:
- flower colour (white or purple)
- flower position (axil or terminal)
- stem length (short or long)
- seed shape (round or wrinkled)
- seed colour (green or yellow)
- pod shape (inflated or constricted)
- pod colour (green or yellow)
He illustrated that some traits are hereditary, they are passed on to the next generation.
