What positions is actually an honorary position?

An honorary position is sometimes given to someone because of their fame or importance or interest in something relevant to the institution giving them the position.

It is usually non-executive (it holds no power or control) within that institution.

Insitutions may be educational (universities), business related (corporations), charities, or the military or public services.
