In ancient Greece why were weak babies killed?

Because of the infant's weak/deformed physical nature. But there are many version of 'excuses' in this case. (Or something like that.)

Additional: Most likely, the infants were thrown into, (I don't know if there was a pit or cave), a certain mountain called Mt.Taytarus.
