The inside address of a business letter is the name and address to whom the letter is written. It is important to have this on the letter itself because it serves as documentation of the person and place a letter is sent. The envelope with the address is not often kept.

It also is a convenience when a large number of letters are sent, the name and address does not have to be typed again if a window envelope is used.
