What state produces the most oil?

Among US states, Texas and Alaska produce the most crude oil. Texas led for most of this century but according to some figures, Alaska may have produced more oil annually at some points in the last 25 years. Perhaps the largest area of development and reserves is the Gulf of Mexico, offshore of Louisiana and Texas.
