One thing that's really popular, depending on what you're fundraising for, is discount cards. You go to local businesses and draw up small contracts saying that when someone presents your fundraiser card they'll do something like 10% off or free coffee with purchase of a pastry at a cafe. You can get the cards printed very reasonably and then sell them for however much, $10 is pretty normal. The business gets advertising on the card and new customers and you get the money from the sales. Schools and clubs do this all the time.

A similar option is to get local merchants to donate a my-pon that's kind of a groupon type thing that donates some of the purchase price to your fundraising cause. It's particularly good because it does not cost the merchants anything, and does not cost you anything.
